Local school leader and CCSNM board member received a national award based on her work and supporting numerous charter schools in Las Cruces.

CCSNM board member and New America School Superintendent and Principal, Margarita Leza Porter, Ed. S., was recognized with the 2022 Changemaker Award from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.

This annual award is only given to 10 individuals throughout the United States who are recognized for their hard work and dedication to charter schools.

Leza Porter’s work can be felt throughout the community of Las Cruces. She works hard to improve education quality for disadvantaged students throughout the city. Something Leza Porter strived for charter schools was to implement STEM programs.

Leza Porter’s advocacy throughout the community helped numerous charter schools to implement STEM programs into their educational system.

Out of the 96 charter schools in the state of New Mexico, Leza Porter was chosen to represent NM at the national level which is something she is proud of.
