Support for Scholars Scholarship Program

Purpose: The scholarship provides partial financial assistance to college-bound homeless high school seniors based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and an expressed interest in pursuing a degree or certificate. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funds so a graduating student can apply and gain acceptance into New Mexico State University (NMSU) or Dona Ana Community College (DACC). Once enrolled, it is the agency’s hope that the student will qualify for NMSU/DACC and/or federal financial aid assistance or other scholarships so they can continue their studies into the future.

Criteria: Students eligible for assistance must be a graduating high school senior who attends a high school in the Las Cruces Public School District, has a minimum of 2.0 grade point average or equivalent, and intends to continue their education at NMSU or DACC. Consideration will be given to a student’s current housing situation, academic achievement, and financial need. Students must submit a scholarship application provided by Catholic Charities before the deadline.

Guidelines: Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis and scholarship monies will be disbursed at the beginning of each academic semester. Also, recipients must contact Catholic Charities the following January 2025 confirming their Spring enrollment at NMSU or DACC and provide a brief letter on how the scholarship has impacted their academic career and/or life thus far.

Amount: Each scholarship amount is up to $5,000 divided between the Fall/Spring semesters Scholarship awards will cover the partial cost of a student’s tuition/fees, books, housing, and meal plan.

Deadline: The 2024-2025 application deadline is May 3, 2024.
