The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced to increase the length of certain work permits to reduce filing times for immigrant workers.

This new announcement comes from President Joe Biden’s administration as they intend to make applications more “accessible and inclusive”.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused an application backlog of approximately 3.7 million applications which has made processing times much longer.

Work permits account for approximately 1.3 out of the 8 million immigration petitions which have been on hold due to long delays.

Thousands of immigrant workers have been forced to leave their jobs due to delays expanding past the validity of their permits.
