COVID Surges in U.S. immigration detention facilities

Despite heavy vaccination and masking efforts inside U.S. immigration detention centers, COVID-19 cases have surged by 520% since the start of the year. ]

Two weeks ago, approximately 1,800 immigrants were confirmed with COVID-19 infections and were isolated/monitored at immigration detention centers around the country.

ICE detention centers have been a hotspot for immigrants being confirmed with COVID-19 infections. ICE has reported approximately 10 COVID-19 deaths in detention centers.

A senior ICE spokesperson commented that detainees at ICE facilities are required to quarantine for 14-days and undergo testing weekly.

Approximately 48,000 detainees have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and around 6000 immigrants have received their booster shot.

Despite a heavy vaccination campaign inside ICE facilities, there is a significant vaccine refusal percentage.
