In a decision released on June 23, the US Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling and reinstated the right of the Executive Branch to set immigration enforcement priorities. In issuing the 8-1 decision, the Court decided that the states of Texas and Louisiana did not have standing to bring the case. The Biden administration’s policy identifies undocumented immigrants who are threats to public safety, border safety and/or national security as priorities for deportation.
