Alleviating suffering and creating hope for those in need is the mission of Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico. We work to help meet the basic needs of individuals and families, address the root causes of poverty, eliminate oppression, and build a more just and compassionate society.
Established in 2004 as a 501(3)(c) nonprofit, Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors. There are ten staff members, including the executive director, two attorneys, and several paralegals. While chartered by the Roman Catholic Church, we serve those who are economically disadvantaged regardless of faith, gender, belief, ethnicity or cultural background.
We have offices located in Roswell and Las Cruces, approximately 40 miles north of the Mexico border. We are one of only a small number of low-cost legal service providers in our service area which covers a 10-county region, including the entire southern half of New Mexico from Texas to Arizona, or 55,000 square miles.
Every day we deliver pro bono or low-cost bilingual immigration legal services, whether it be a family petition, employment authorization, naturalization, detention bond, asylum case, defense for deportation, or other services. We also provide assistance to victims of crime, including domestic violence. In addition, we provide counseling and referrals for those with financial needs and we offer monetary assistance to the poor and less fortunate.
