Creating hope for those in need is the mission of Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico. We work to help meet the basic needs of individuals and families, address the root causes of poverty, eliminate oppression, and build a more just and compassionate society.
Established in 2010 as a 501(3)(c) nonprofit, Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors. There are eight staff members, including the executive director, and several volunteers. While chartered by the Roman Catholic Church, we serve those who are economically disadvantaged regardless of faith, belief, ethnicity or cultural background.
We are located in Las Cruces, Dona Ana County, just about 40 miles north of the Mexico border. We are one of only a small handful of low-cost legal service providers in our service area which covers a 10-county region, including the entire southern half of New Mexico from Texas to Arizona, some 55,000 square miles.
Every day we deliver low-cost bilingual immigration legal services, whether it be a family petition, employment authorization, naturalization, detention bond, defense for deportation, or other service. We give assistance to victims of crime, including domestic violence. In addition, we provide counseling and referrals for those with financial needs; we offer monetary assistance as a last resort.
