We would like to thank Chicano Programs’ Interim Director, Dr. Judith Flores Carmona, VP of Equity, Inclusion & Diversity, Dr. Linda Scholz at NMSU, Yosimar Reyes, Mexican-born poet, and activist, Professor Nicholas Navidad, Ph.D. at New Mexico State University, BIA Accredited Representative Cristina Roberts at Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico and everyone who made this event possible!
It was a phenomenal event and we look forward to continued collaboration with the Chicano Programs at New Mexico State University to benefit students in need of financial assistance and other resources!
The purpose of this luncheon was to fundraise funds to benefit New Mexico State University Chicano students in need of financial aid assistance. This event featured three special guest speakers as Yosimar Reyes, Nicholas Navidad, Ph.D., and Cristina Roberts.
Yosimar Reyes opened the luncheon with poems that shined a light on issues that affect the immigrant LGBT+ community throughout the United States and the world. Nicholas Navidad, Ph.D., later talked about issues such as human and civil rights at the post-secondary education level. Ms. Cristina Roberts talked about the legal immigration services that Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico offer.
The luncheon wrapped up with a Q/A session initiated by Dr. Linda Scholz. People in attendance had the opportunity to ask questions from the guest speakers.
